Why Narakasura's Death is Celebrated as a Part of Diwali

Why Narakasura's Death is Celebrated as a Part of Diwali

Here we are celebrating the killing of an asura!!!

Naraka belonged to a royal family. Some history reveals that he was the son of Vishnu and some say that he was the son of hiranyaksha an asura. So he had certain tendencies to become a successful ruler and rule all parts of the earth. Moreover, he was friends with Mura, who later on became his General, and they together fought many battles, winning them by killing thousands of people. As they had turned stronger together, there was no way to be dealt with them when they were together. So Krishna decided to kill Mura first, so that their strength could be halved. That's why Krishna is also called Murari, as he killed Mura.

Demon king Narakasura, ruler of Pragjyotishpur after defeating Lord Indra had snatched away the magnificent earrings of Aditi ( Heavenly mother Goddess) and had imprisoned sixteen thousand daughters of the gods and other saints in his prison.

And once Mura was taken off Naraka was more of his ceremony. His death was nearer. It is the human tendency, that they have their light bulb moment of life when they are about to lose everything, probably when they near death. And Naraka was one of them. He continued doing all the wrongs in his life, realizing lately that it was all in vain. He said, "Today you are killing, not me , but all the wrongs I did, this must be celebrated". It was followed by Narakasura being killed by Lord Krishna with his "Sudarshan Chakra" and the liberation of all the prisoners who were held captive by Narakasura.
Also he had requested a boon from his mother, Satyabhama, that everyone should celebrate his death with colorful light.

Why Narakasura's Death is Celebrated as a Part of Diwali

So we must not celebrate killing of Narakasura or the end of his wrongs, instead we must celebrate the killing of all the wrongs within us.That's when a real Diwali is lit up.

Wish You A Happy and Safe Diwali to All !!!!
